With the possibility of making a natural yet effective deodorant, you really have no reason to expose your skin to dangers in the name of eliminating natural body odors that are not that pleasant. A few steps will help you come up with a deodorant stick that smells great, keeps you cool and fresh and eliminates any side effects.
Natural deodorant ingredients
Essential oils of lavender and tea tree oil are the best for homemade deodorant. They not only give the deodorant a pleasant smell, but their antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties, go a long way in making the deodorant effective. You can take 10 to 15 drops of each of the oils and choose other essential oils that you love to enhance the scent of your deodorant of you so wish.
Other ingredients that you need for the homemade deo stick are coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax pellets, baking soda that is aluminum free, cornstarch or arrowroot powder if you have sensitive skin and deodorant tubes.
In a double boiler melt 2 tablespoons of beeswax pellets and then add 5 tablespoons coconut oil and 1 tablespoon shea butter and allow to heat to melting point stirring occasionally. A wooden stick makes it easy to handle the beeswax.
Once melted, remove from the heat and add ¼ cup of baking soda and ¼ cup cornstarch. Stir the mixture till you have a smooth texture free from lumps.
Add 10 drops of tea tree, 10 of lavender and 10 of any other essential oils you have chosen for the natural deodorant. Stir them in well until thoroughly mixed.
Pour your mixture in clean deodorant tubes. Allow the mixture to sit before adding to fill the tubes.
Now that your natural deodorant is ready for use, you must know how to best use it to get better results, especially it is your first time using a homemade essential oil product.
- Make sure you do not over apply the natural deodorant. A few swipes will work just fine, thanks to the effective ingredients used.
- Twist up only the right amount for that use. The homemade deodorant is softer compared to other store deodorants hence it may fall off if you end up twisting up too much of it.
- For areas with extremely high temperatures, it may be necessary to refrigerate the stick to harden it up a little.
- Give it a few weeks to decide whether it works or not.
